The inhabitants of Soatanana are obviously very poor, yet they have a wonderful production besides agriculture : the traditional wild silk scarves (called"lamba")
After harvesting and dying the cocoons, the scarves are being hand woven and colored in accordance with traditional techniques by the women joined in a cooperative society.
This production is environment friendly and should allow women a small revenue but visitors are very scarce and they are very likely to sell their production outisde the village.
This is why Amitie Soa is considering all ways to promote their activities including making publicity with hotels in the area.
